Trainer T.J. Ramsay
There has probably been an unluckier horse to race in Australia, but there would not be many. Rated the fastest horse ever trained at Brisbane’s Deagon racecourse, Academy Star was placed in all three legs of the 1966 Sydney two-year-old triple crown. The total losing margin for the three races was three quarters of a length. Academy Star had little luck in any of them and could have easily gone down as a superstar of the racetrack. To top it off he later finished a close second in the 1968 Group 1 Doomben 10,000. In fact the majority of his nine seconds were in feature races. His best wins were the Tatt’s Healy Stakes and the Canterbury Stakes.
