Trainer H.H. Cook
One of the best Queensland stayers in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He is the only horse to win back to back Doomben Cups (1959-60) when the race was a handicap. (Rough Habit later won three in a row at weight for age). However, his record was very good in all races. He won the Sapling Stakes, Lonergan Stakes, Darling Downs Bloodhorse Breeders as a two-year-old. But he laid claims to being one of the best three-year-old stayers in Brisbane’s history winning the O’Mara Stakes, QTC Guineas, BTC Summer Cup, QTC Derby, Tattersall’s Cup and Doomben Cup. At four he won two Flyings and a second Doomben Cup. He later stood at stud.
Thanks to Geoff Shephard for contributing the photo of Earlwood which if old racing hand Barry Austin is correct was taken at Doomben or possibly the Ekka.
