Fred Clarke was a top class big race jockey who won a Caulfield Cup on Bore Head in 1965. Clarke went to his grave certain Bore Head would have won that year's Melbourne Cup had he not been brought down in a fall. Clarke was often restricted to top weights late in his career but still rode hundreds of winners.
