A former Sydney jockey, Mick Mair was one of the first trainers to move to the then new Caloundra racetrack in the mid-1980s. Mair rarely had a large team but also rarely was far from the winners circle. He got his rewards when his galloper Swiss Ace won the 2009 Oakleigh Plate and was second in the VRC Newmarket. Mair, who is well known for his sharp wit, also served on the SCTC committee for many years.
Some of his best wins included the Oakleigh Plate (Swiss Ace), Byrne Hart Classic (Swiss Ace), Ipswich Cup (Burglar of Bamff), Lord Mayor's Cup (Burglar of Bamff), Caloundra City Cup (Burglar of Bamff), SCTC Power's Classic (Go Tel, Search For Glory), Apollo Stakes (Kidman's Cove), Kindergarten Stakes (Dr Zachary), Skyline Stakes (Dr Zachary), Premier's Cup (Rezone), Weetwood (Kidman's Cove) and Ken Russell Memorial (Ombra Della Sera).
